Cool Moon of Joy – 2008

Watercolor, color pencil on black paper – 18 x 24

A hatch of insects.   Must be Spring, maybe May.  A full Moon when the insects burst from their aquatic selves and mount the night sky as if to eat the stars.  Meanwhile the river or the sea surges on,  an algal soup in shades of jade easing around the rocks, which are as black and glossy as obsidian.  Elusive life forms can be half seen, half imagined in the undulations.  All is in flux.  John Scofield’s music: “Like the Moon” (from his Up All Night album) helped to bring about this drawing.
