Hecate – 2002

Watercolor – 8.5 x 5

When you need to make a choice in your life, when a change is due, and you heed the intuitive voice within you, you heed Hecate, the goddess at the fork in the road. She is the inner self-helper, the one who witnesses us as we recall our dreams, and dwell on our perceptions of our life – past, present, and future.  It is a liminal time, a twilight time, time to be quiet and listen for the truth.  Hecate holds the torch so we can shed light on the parts of ourselves we keep hidden from ourselves in these vague and dim times.

This work was inspired by the New Mexico desert, where it can feel as though one is always standing at a crossroads on the verge of being turned inside out, and shown something new about what it means to be alive.
