Gwynn Popovac was born in Delaware, 1948, but lived most of her childhood in the San Fernando Valley, California. She studied literature at UCLA in the late 60’s and began displaying her paintings and drawings in Westwood Village, Los Angeles at Rumsey’s Gallery, and Gagosian’s Open Gallery, during this time. She lived briefly in Marseille, France, and then ten years in The Northeast Kingdom, Vermont, where she and her husband Vladimir rejuvenated a 100 year-old farm house, and their daughter, Lola was born and partly raised. They also lived for a short while in Dubrovnik, former Yugoslavia before the war. Since 1984 she has made her home in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, outside of Sonora, California.
