Insecta Sensorium – Vibrations of Life 1993
The hum of insects is mistaken for
the distant sound of child play.
Bursts of glee, calls to one another.
An impulsive, percussive, trilling,
pulsating, yearning, pleading, playful,
pre-verbal medley of insect sounds. Translated into the clicking and chattering of dangling bone beads, glass beads jiggling at the ends of bamboo stalks, a whirring of bass rings slipping over brass rings, a jingling of small bells.
Who is compelled to go in search of the source of this music? Cicada or child? Human or grasshopper?
