The Sun Sensor – 1995
Pen, color pencil – 14 x 19
This is a portrait of the Regal Horned Lizard, a dweller of the shrubland deserts of the Southwest and Sonoran Mountains. Often well camouflaged, half-buried in sand, here I set him off against a surface of dark granite. Columns of ants, the Regal Horned Lizard’s favorite food, and thorny twigs serve as decorative elements.
Regal Horned Lizard, Phrynosoma solare species, Family Phrynosomatidae, Order Squamata, Class Reptilia
