Terricon – A Desert Mask 1996
The morning sun warms the blood.
Creature of extremes, bedded under-ground, unearthed by the heat of the sun, tuned to its trip across the sky by the portal between his eyes, the Regal Horned Lizard shifts back and forth between freezing and scorching, blue-black shadow and pink light.
At dusk he basks Sphinx-like enthroned upon a rock soaking up the last warmth of day as a chill wind comes up and the
Joshua Trees applaud. Then blanketed in sand again he waits for the sun to return.
